Former WWE Talent Has Recently Held Talks With AEW

Tony Khan is always looking to bolster his rosters with fresh talent, and typically, former WWE wrestlers top his list as the most desirable, given their name recognition and experience. And now it has been reported by Fightful Select that AEW management has recently held talks with former three-time Intercontinental Champion Shelton Benjamin, who departed WWE last September following a round of cuts.

“Fightful Select has learned that while Shelton Benjamin and All Elite Wrestling didn’t have contact initially upon his free agency, the two sides have recently had conversations and discussed the possibility of him appearing for the company.”

48-year-old Benjamin initially joined WWE in 2000 and, over the next decade, would hold singles titles and form a memorable tag team with Charlie Haas. However, he departed the company in 2010 and subsequently worked for ROH, New Japan, and NOAH. Still, he would get a second chance to be a WWE Superstar, and while his proposed re-signing in 2016 was postponed until 2017 due to injury, he would return to team with Chad Gable before becoming part of The Hurt Business, a stable many feel never achieved its full potential.
