Former WWE Referee Dave Hebner Has Passed Away Aged 73

Three weeks ago, NASCAR driver Hermie Sadler took to Twitter to share a heartbreaking photo alongside his longtime friend and former WWE referee Dave Hebner. In the caption, he would ask fans to send positive vibes, revealing that the 73-year-old Hebner was in poor health, which was evident from his appearance. Later it would be revealed that he had Parkinson’s disease, and sadly, Greg Oliver of Slam Wrestling has now confirmed on Twitter that he has passed away. With his death occuring around noon on July 17, 2022, at his home in Virginia.

Dave Hebner is best known to wrestling fans for the 1988 angle alongside his twin brother Earl which saw the brothers switch places for the WWF Championship match between Hulk Hogan and André the Giant. This led to Earl quickly counting the pin despite Hogan having his shoulder up and André becoming champion. However, the evil twin storyline would be dropped when Dave suffered broken ribs. Dave Hebner would then go on to retire from officiating following knee replacement surgery and worked as a road agent until released in 2005 for allegedly selling merchandise with his brother without WWE’s approval. Shortly afterward, he would be hired by TNA.
