Former WCW Commentator Attempting To Stop Ric Flair Wrestling Again

Despite having been retired for over a decade and suffering from serious health issues since his last match With Sting in 2011, Ric Flair is training for an in-ring comeback. While specific detail aren’t yet fully known yet, it has been revealed the match will occur at the Nashville Fairgrounds on July 31, following a Starrcast wrestling convention. And while some fans are thrilled to have the opportunity to see Flair wrestle again in person and via FITE, not everyone is pleased, with some even disappointed.

Among those disgruntled is former WCW secondary commentator Chris Cruise who took to Facebook once he read the news. However, rather than simply voicing his concerns and waiting for the full details to be confirmed, he would announce he had already contacted the Maryland State Athletic Commission and would be contacting others in an attempt to block Flair. Obviously, with it since being confirmed the match will take place in Tennessee, it is likely safe to assume he now has the Tennessee Athletic Commission in his sights.

Hey you rubes, I screw around here a lot, but this is serious: Ric Flair should not be allowed to wrestle. Some reports indicate he has been working out with Jay Lethal in preparation to returning to the ring. He can’t be stopped from doing so in states that don’t have athletic commissions and licensing protocols, but insurance companies can step in and refuse to issue a bond to a promotion that books him. And for those states that do have commissions, they should be contacted to demand that they not allow Flair to wrestle. Simply put, Ric Flair returning to the ring is not wise. No how, no way. He’s 73, in poor health, an alcoholic, and has a pacemaker installed.

Today I emailed the following to the Maryland State Athletic Commission, since I live in Maryland, and will contact other commissions as well. I would encourage you to also email the commission ([email protected]) and urge its members to deny Flair a license. It won’t take long, and could help keep Flair alive.Chris Cruise

Based on his Facebook post, Cruise is doing this because he is concerned for Flair’s health. Although many consider the commentator, who has failed multiple times to return to wrestling, to be bitter towards the business. This was previously demonstrated when he reported AEW to the Maryland State Athletic Commission for the blood and violence in the “lights out” match between Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley at Full Gear in 2019. Subsequently, AEW was fined $10,000, and Cruise would brag on social media about costing a billionaire what amounts to pocket change.
