Comedy rock duo Tenacious D have been kicking since the mid-‘90s, and their 3-episode HBO TV series catapulted the band into a very successful run that included a platinum concert DVD, their own full-length movie and a Grammy Award.

The band’s tongue-in-cheek approach to rock and metal both lightly mocks and pays tribute to the genres, and one of the band’s most revered subjects is legendary singer Ronnie James Dio. The duo paid tribute to him with their song “Dio” in 2001, and the singer later said he was flattered by the tune and even included Tenacious D in his 2002 “Push” video. Dio would later also star in the band’s “Tenacious D in: The Pick of Destiny” film, but not everyone took the songs as lighthearted including former “Jackass” star Steve-O.

During an interview with Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine for a recent episode of his “Steve-O’s Wild Ride” podcast, the stuntman-turned stand-up comedian explained why he felt “offended” by Tenacious D’s song about Dio. “I’m very upset with Jack Black’s song about Dio,” he said. “I just felt very offended. I mean it’s tongue-in-cheek for sure, it’s comedy, but don’t disparage my Ronnie James Dio.”

Mustaine added: “There are just some guys who are untouchable. Jack is a comedian and that’s what comedian do, they try to get a rise out of people.”
