Former AEW Wrestler Seen Backstage With Scott D’Amore During TNA’s Latest Tapings

TNA’s roster is constantly transforming, and following the recent departures of Deonna Purrazzo and Sami Callihan, the promotion has recruited Nic Nemeth and Ash by Elegance. And now it appears that some additional talents could be joining them, as during the Friday and Saturday tapings, Mace, Mansoor, Alex Zayne, and Shawn Spears were all spotted backstage. And now Fightful Select has reported that Spears, who departed AEW last month, was seen talking to TNA President Scott D’Amore for around 20 minutes, seemingly indicating he wasn’t just visiting friends.

“Former AEW talent Shawn Spears, formerly known as Tye Dillinger was also at this past weekend’s tapings. Spears is from the area and was seen backstage. However, we’re told that several saw him with Scott D’Amore for about 20 minutes at Gorilla position as well.”

42-year-old Spears was one of AEW’s first signings, having been granted his WWE release in 2019, seemingly knowing there would be a spot for him in the newly launched company due to his friendship with Cody Rhodes. And while he did have a memorable feud with Rhodes, as AEW’s roster grew, he would fall down the pecking order. Still, it was believed AEW wanted to renew his deal, with him having appeared as one of Adam Cole’s masked goons. However, he instead opted not to re-sign, saying it was best for his family, with it later announced his wife Peyton Royce was pregnant with their second child.
