Foo Fighters parted ways with drummer Josh Freese earlier this year. Freese said on Instagram that the band decided “to go in a different direction with their drummer,” and that “no reason was given” regarding why he was dismissed. Freese filled the vacancy left by the late Taylor Hawkins who sadly passed away in 2022.

Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the band has now recruited Ilan Rubin as their new drummer. Rubin is most known for his time with Nine Inch Nails, and he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with the band back in 2020. Rubin, just 37 years old, is the youngest living inductee in Rock Hall history. Rubin has also played with Angels & Airwaves, Paramore and Danny Elfman.

Ironically, Freese, who was Nine Inch Nails’ touring drummer from 2005 to 2008 is returning to that band. NIN shared a picture of Freese on social media with the caption “Let’s f*cking go.”

The Foo Fighters will also play their first shows in a year starting in Jakarta, Indonesia on Oct. 2, followed by dates in Singapore, Tokyo and Osaka. They’re also set for a show in Mexico City on Nov. 14.

Foo Fighters also released a new song earlier this month, “Today’s Song,” to celebrate their 30th anniversary. It’s unclear whether Rubin will be a permanent member of the band or if he’s joined as a hired hand.
