In March 2020, Scream 5 was officially announced, and over the next six months David Arquette, Courtney Cox, and Neve Campbell would all sign on. Filming commenced on September 22, 2020, in Wilmington, North Carolina, across various locations in the city. Now Kevin Williamson, who wrote the screenplays for Scream, Scream 2, and Scream 4 and working as an executive producer for the latest installment, has taken to Twitter and revealed that filming has wrapped, and the film will be called just Scream.
While eight weeks of filming doesn’t sound long, it is the same amount of time that the original Scream filmed for, and more than Scream 2. Fans do still have a long time to wait to watch the final product, as Scream is scheduled for release on January 14, 2022, with Paramount Pictures deciding to play it safe with many of 2020s scheduled release having moved back to 2021.
