Sami Zayn has never appeared at one of WWE’s shows in Saudi Arabia, with it believed due to his Syrian ethnic descent, he is persona non grata. And while in the past, from a strictly product perspective, it was never considered a big deal, the fact he has since become a big part of The Bloodline storyline and one of the most entertaining wrestlers on SmackDown, his absence will be noticeable at Crown Jewel. And illustrating this, fans attending Friday’s press conference would loudly chant “we want Sami” while Roman Reigns and Logan Paul were trying to hype their match. However, unfazed, Reigns would tell the fans that they didn’t deserve Sami due to their behavior.
Whether this reaction will see the powers that be reconsidering their ban on Zayn remains to be seen. Although considering how he has been treated over this, it’s possible he may not want to attend even if permitted. With it is known that in the past, WWE hasn’t pushed for talents to attend shows if they feel uncomfortable participating in what many consider “sports-washing.” In fact, one of Zayn’s closest friends, Kevin Owens, hasn’t attended shows in the past to support his friend, and it’s believed to be why he is currently off television as he has no match to build.
