Prior to his solo band tour, KISS icon Gene Simmons offered fans the chance to be his roadie for a day. The gig also included a signed bass guitar and sported an expensive price tag of $12,495. Simmons said the the high cost was mostly due to insurance concerns, but that it was a one-of-a-kind experience.
A fan recently ponied up the price to roadie for Simmons on May 5 in New Jersey, and he shared his experience with The New York Times. Dwayne Rosado, a retired corrections sergeant, said: “You only live once. And I want to experience life. I’m not going to die with a lot of money. I’m going to die happy.”
Rosado took his son Zach with him, and said that they ate takeout from “a local Italian place” with Simmons. The KISS bassist shared various stories with them including how he lost his virginity “at age 13 or 14 to a married woman on his newspaper delivery route.”
Rosado also talked about being on stage for the concert. “It felt awkward, because I have a whole crowd in front of me, and all I wanted to do is hug him,” Rosado shared. “I didn’t care about anything else that was going on.”
Rosado said the experience was worth it. “Nothing can beat tonight,” he said. “It’s cemented in Kisstory now, because it’s going to be on YouTube and everything else. So I’ll get to look back and see that moment forever.”
