Exodus guitarist Gary Holt is not a fan of the Kardashians. A few years back, Holt, who also played guitar for Slayer, started sporting a “Kill the Kardashians” shirt which was made by a friend because of his “deep, bitter, black hatred of them.” In 2017, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner faced major backlash from the metal community when they released a custom line of vintage T-shirts with their own images and branding plastered over famous band logos and photos. Following the internet outcry, the sisters removed the shirts and apologized online. “I don’t begrudge them for their money,” Holt said. “I just f*cking hate people that are becoming superstars for doing nothing. Kim Kardashian was a closet organizer and then she did a sex tape and became famous for it.”
“I hate the people that have made them famous — us. I hate the fact that people are so enamored and just fascinated with the glorious lifestyles of the rich and famous that they would elevate them to this status.”
Now, Holt is selling guitar picks with photos of the Kardashian family with whited-out eyes and upside down crosses on their foreheads. Another pick gives Kanye West the same treatment. “Picks galore in the big cartel store!” Holt wrote on Instagram. “These and many more! Shirts in sizes small-xxx, sweatbands, and more! Link as always is in the link tree in my profile! ITEMS NO LONGER AVAILABLE IN IN EBAY STORE! Only future auctions will be there! ONLY AVAILABLE IN THE BIG CARTEL STORE!”
In 2020, Holt re-printed his “Kill the Kardashians” shirt and clarified his stance. “You know, I don’t hate the Kardashians,” Holt said. “I hate the people that have made them famous — us. I hate the fact that people are so enamored and just fascinated with the glorious lifestyles of the rich and famous that they would elevate them to this status.”
Exodus released their 11th studio album, “Persona Non Grata,” in November of last year. It was voted 23rd best rock/metal album of last year by Loudwire.
