Former Red Hot Chili Peppers Guitarist Josh Klinghoffer is being sued for wrongful death and negligence, according to TMZ. The suit stems from an incident that occurred when Klinghoffer was driving in Los Angeles County this past March. Video from TMZ shows a man using a crosswalk who is then struck by a black SUV making a left turn. The driver pulls over the check the victim before returning to his car and calling 9-1-1.
Klinghoffer’s lawyer told TMZ: “It was a tragic accident. After Josh struck this pedestrian in the intersection, he immediately pulled over, stopped the car, called 911 and waited until police and the ambulance arrived. Obviously, he’s cooperating with the police throughout the traffic investigation. This was purely a tragic accident.”
The suit claims that 47-year-old Israel Sanchez died hours after the accident. No arrests have been made. Klinghoffer played with the Red Hot Chili Peppers for 12 years and is currently a touring member of Pearl Jam. He’s also performed with Jane’s Addiction, the Butthole Surfers and Gnarls Barkley, among others.
