Edge Discusses His Intention To “Ride Off Into The Sunset”

Edge’s WWE career was cut short in 2011 due to cervical spinal stenosis, with it feared he could be paralyzed or even die if he continued wrestling. Yet, after almost a decade away from the ring, a combination of rest, rehab, and advances in medical knowledge allowed him to return at the 2020 Royal Rumble for one of the most amazing moments in WWE history. Now though, it’s known Edge intends to retire shortly based on comments he told fans following Raw in Toronto, although on his own terms this time, as he has told The Nation Network.

That’s the key. The first time I was told, “You gotta hang it up. That’s it, you’re done.” It was WrestleMania. I retired world champ, and that sounds Cinderella, but I just didn’t know. That made it hard to chew on all those years, but I had to accept it and move on with what life is now. Start an amazing, beautiful family, and the acting thing started to kind of take off a little, but when I had the chance to get this back. The first thing I thought is, ‘I want to retire in Toronto.

Because again, I know the window is not open for long. But if I can do it there, I think then I’ll be able to go right. I’m good. That was the last thing to kind of check off. I didn’t come back to win four more championships or anything like that. I really just came back to have fun, try and help teach a new generation of talent that I never got my hands on before. I always say I call us storytellers. Come back and tell a hell of a story for three or four years and then ride off into the sunset.

Edge

It’s believed Edge signed a three-year deal with WWE in January 2020, which should mean his contract expires in January 2023. However, as he suffered a torn triceps that sidelined him for seven months, August would be when his deal expires if WWE added the time on. Which, based on his comments, is what is happening. Of course, the big thing will now be what WWE does to send off into the sunset, but a pay-per-view in Toronto with him headlining certainly seems appropriate.
