Back in 2022, Game Changer Wrestling introduced the Indie Wrestling Hall of Fame, and although not as prestigious as the WWE Hall of Fame, it does give talented wrestlers who perhaps only had limited opportunities to shine in major promotions the spotlight. However, GCW’s owner, Brett Lauderdale, has just announced on X that Sabu, who is one of this year’s inductees, no-showed the event despite already being in the building. Why the former ECW star would choose to do this is unknown, but Lauderdale seems to be taking it in his stride by saying it represents the “true spirit of independent wrestling.”
Sabu is undoubtedly a pro wrestling legend, having taken hardcore wrestling mainstream thanks to his runs in FMW and ECW; however, at age 59, his time in the ring is coming to an end. In fact, it was thought he was already retired, having not competed since 2021, although after diving through a table at AEW’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view last year, it’s understood he is in training for one-final match against longtime friend RVD.
