Dustin Rhodes Comes To The Defense Of Nyla Rose Following Online Transphobic Abuse

Nyla Rose has been a trailblazer for transgender athletes since signing for AEW back in 2019. Yet she has regularly been the victim of transphobia, particularly online, where abusers can hide behind anonymity. And now, after one so-called wrestling fan said Rose’s participation made them “sick,” wrestling legend Dustin Rhodes, who has a transgender stepson, has come to his AEW colleague’s defense by telling them to “go bury your head in the sand and rot, dipsh*t.

41-year-old Rose spent six years on the independent circuit before becoming the first openly transgender wrestler to sign with a major promotion. Subsequently, she also became the first transgender wrestler to win a major title in an American promotion when she defeated Rhio for the AEW Women’s World Championship in February 2020. Yet while this was historic, it would become a very controversial topic, with some fans outraged she would be booked to represent AEW’s women’s division.
