Dr. Britt Baker’s latest t-shirt is one of AEW’s top sellers at the moment. However, there is some controversy as it shows her with a black eye following an attack from The Outcasts. That is because some say it looks like it could be promoting domestic violence. Now though, the AEW star has commented in an interview with Sports Illustrated on the design and revealed she was surprised by the backlash.
I was very surprised. When I posted the picture of my black eye on social media, it got almost 100,000 likes [and comments saying] that I’m tough and I’m a badass and, “Wow, this girl, she’s strong.” It was empowering, But then when it went on a shirt, it was really problematic, and that was so confusing to me. Because why? If I’m on a shirt with a black eye, why does that make me weak? Why does that make me a victim? But if a man, or Chris Jericho, had a black eye, they’d be tough, and they’d be a badass.
The big issue is people seeing the t-shirts out of context and not realizing it is part of a pro wrestling storyline and therefore is easy to understand why some would be offended. Nevertheless, Baker is accurate with her point on double standards, as this wouldn’t even be a topic of conversation had it featured a man.
