Dexter Lumis Files Trademark Application For New Nickname

WWE released Dexter Lumis on April 29, 2022, and due to them owning the trademark on his name, it had simply been assumed he would resume wrestling under the name Samuel Shaw. This was because it is both his real name and what he used in Impact Wrestling. However that may not be the case, as he has recently filed a trademark application for the term “Hatchet,” which would certainly play into the American Psycho-inspired gimmick he used in both Impact and NXT. Additionally, he has since updated his Twitter display name to reflect this nickname.

Shaw has previously taken inspiration from horror pop culture when choosing names. This is evident because his NXT name is a combination of Dexter Morgan from the Dexter television series and Lumis, an alternative spelling of Dr. Samuel Loomis’ surname in the Halloween franchise. Therefore “Hatchet” could come from the slasher movie of the same name. Although, during his wedding angle with Indi Hartwell, he would display a small ax to deter anyone from objecting to their marriage which got a popular reaction online, and the film connection could just be a coincidence.
