Longtime Dead Kennedys drummer D.H. Peligro has passed away aged 63. The Dead Kennedys shared the news via social media on Saturday.

“Dead Kennedys’ drummer D.H. Peligro (Darren Henley) passed away in his Los Angeles home yesterday, October 28th. Police on the scene stated that he died from trauma to the head caused by an accidental fall. Arrangements are pending and will be announced in the coming days. We ask that you respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time. Thank you for your thoughts and words of comfort.”

Peligro joined the Dead Kennedys in 1981 and made his debut with the band on “In God We Trust, Inc.” He also appeared on the band’s “Plastic Surgery Distasters,” “Frankenchrist,” “Bedtime For Democracy” and “Give Me Convenience Or Give Me Death” albums.

Following Dead Kennedys first run, Peligro was drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers before being let go for drug and alcohol issues. In 2001, Dead Kennedys reformed without frontman and primary songwriter Jello Biafra after a civil fraud complaint alleged the singer of withholding royalties.

Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea paid tribute to Peligro. “I love you with all my heart,” Flea wrote. “You are the truest rocker, and a crucial part of RHCP history. D H P in the place to be, you live forever in our hearts, you wild man, you bringer of joy, you giant hearted man. I will always honor you. Rest In Peace and freedom from all that restrained you.”

Three songs co-written by Peligro — “Knock Me Down,” “Sexy Mexican Maid” and “Taste The Pain” — appear on RHCP’s 1989 album, “Mother’s Milk.”

Peligro also released three solo albums, and his cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze” was nominated for a Grammy.
