Dax Harwood Disputes Speculation That Colt Cabana Wasn’t Going To Be Re-Signed By AEW Due To CM Punk

Colt Cabana joined AEW in February 2020 and went on to become a member of The Dark Order. Yet, he has been noticeably absent from television in recent months despite remaining listed on the promotions roster page. It’s since been claimed he will be exclusive with Ring of Honor going forward, which makes sense considering his past with the promotion.

Yet, a new report from Fightful Select has stated that Cabana was initially not expected to be re-signed with Tony Khan, with it rumored his stained relationship with CM Punk being the reason. However, not long after the report was tweeted out, FTR member Dax Harwood and a friend of Punk would respond by simply saying, “100% complete fabrication.” Seemingly expressing that the AEW World Champion was not involved in Cabana’s future under Khan being in doubt.

For those unaware, Cabana and Punk were extremely close longtime friends. Unfortunately, their relationship soured when WWE sued them over comments made by Punk relating to WWE doctor Christopher Amann during the now infamous podcast hosted by Cabana. The belief is Punk originally agreed to cover Cabana’s legal costs, but along the way, they fell out, with it speculated was because Cabana kept in touch with friends working for WWE. This led to Punk rescinding his offer and Cabana commencing legal proceedings against Punk, with the former WWE star countersuing his now former friend. Eventually, both lawsuits would be settled, although it has been reported that neither paid nor received any financial settlement.
