Last Sunday at AEW’s Dynasty pay-per-view, Will Ospreay defeated Bryan Danielson in a 32-minute match that fans all across social media deemed “a banger.” And now, for those who care about his rating system, Dave Meltzer has confirmed in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that he scored it 6.5 stars. Therefore making it is the highest-ranked match in North American pro wrestling history.
Meltzer began his rating system back in 1982, and while most fans think five stars is the definition of a flawless match, in 2018, Kazuchika Okada vs. Kenny Omega at Dominion 6.9 in Osaka-jo Hall was given a record seven stars. Thus, for those who follow Meltzer’s ratings religiously, this is considered the greatest match ever, and with Will Ospreay now having the most individual five-star plus matches with 38, he is in contention for best in-ring performer of all time ahead of legends like Mitsuharu Misawa, Kenta Kobashi, and Toshiaki Kawada.
