The new wrestling-based horror movie, “Dark Match,” premieres Jan. 31 on Shudder. Starring Chris Jericho, the film tells the story of a small-time wrestling company that accepts a well-paying gig in a backwoods town. The community, however, is run by a mysterious cult leader with devious plans for their show.
Independent wrestler Mo Jabari stars in the film as Enigma Jones. Jabari trained under Lance Storm and has close ties to Bret “The Hitman” Hart and the Hart family. The 27-year-old Canadian wrestler also tried out for WWE last year.
In a new Web Is Jericho interview via Youngstown Studio, Jabari described what his tryout for WWE’s NXT brand was like and how he’s hopeful to be getting a call from the company soon.
“I went down to Orlando to the Performance Center in June,” Jabari said. “I had a private tryout so they threw me in the classes. Essentially the way it’s setup is, for like a week I was part of the classes where the signed guys are. I thought it was a wonderful experience for me. One, I got to go and learn from some of the greatest minds. I get to learn from Bret Hart, who is one of the greatest minds, then I get to go to Orlando and learn from Shawn Michaels, William Regal, Fit Finlay. These guys are a who’s who of wrestling. I’m sitting there Monday to Friday for hours next to William Regal, and he’s explaining to me the ins and outs of everything. Then I get to go have matches in front of them, and they break it down.”
Jabari continued: “I remember William Regal kept saying, ‘This week alone, we’re gonna give you 10 years of experience.’ And it really did feel that way. When I left and got on the plane to come back home, I did feel like I had like 10 years of experience. He saved me 10 years of trying to figure stuff out. I had a great experience and got to see what it is like to be in the PC and to live that life. Hopefully it’s something I will be doing full time, and hopefully I hear back from them soon and we’ll see where we go from there.”
