Crown Jewel Currently Proceeding Despite Report Of “Imminent Attack From Iran” On Saudi Arabia

This weekend WWE will be holding Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia, headlined by Roman Reigns vs. Logan Paul. However, the ongoing dispute between Saudi Arabia and Iran, sometimes called the Middle Eastern Cold War, is now putting the show at risk. This is because it’s been reported that the host country is aware of an “imminent attack from Iran on targets in the kingdom.” And while wrestling fans are now questioning whether the event will or should proceed, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has revealed that WWE is still planning for Crown Jewel to take place as scheduled, although they are monitoring the situation.

WWE began running house shows in Saudi Arabia in 2014 and signed a big money deal to hold pay-per-view quality shows there. And while often the shows could be better, with big matches failing to deliver, they are usually newsworthy, with Shawn Michales coming out of retirement, Goldberg wrestling The Undertaker in a 90s dream match, and a 50-man Royal Rumble having all taken place there. Nevertheless, every time the WWE returns, the company is accused of partaking in sports washing due to Saudi Arabia’s human rights record. Additionally, some wrestlers have even refused to travel to the country out of fear and not wanting to be seen as supporting the regime.
