In 2023, Jacob Fatu was accused of no-showing an indie event being put on by a charity that provides items like diapers to disadvantaged children. This was despite him having been sent over $2500 upfront and having his flight paid for. Yet, despite the story getting some attention then, it would blow over due to Fatu not being a big name in the business. Although as he is now a WWE superstar, the question was asked on Reddit whether he had ever repaid his alleged debt, with it revealed he hadn’t.
Subsequently, the story would take off again, and Fatu even briefly deactivated his X account after being publicly asked to explain his actions. However, Jenn Harper, the Director of Development for Jake’s Network of Hope, the charity affected, has now issued a statement to Sports Illustrated disclosing that Fatu did apologize six months ago, although he has yet to repay the total amount.
“Jacob Fatu and our organization are addressing this matter privately, beginning with a phone call and heartfelt apology back in May. While the full amount owed hasn’t yet been repaid, we appreciated Jacob’s acknowledgment. It can be tough to face up to your wrongdoings, and we commend him for taking steps toward confronting his.”
Jenn Harper - Jake's Network of Hope32-year-old Fatu previously served jail time for armed robbery, although he would turn his life around after being inspired by his cousins Jimmy and Jey Uso to become a pro wrestler. This would lead him to become a featured performer in MLW, with WWE seemingly overlooking him, given his past. Yet, thanks to The Bloodline storyline, he would eventually get an opportunity, and so far, he has been very impressive in the ring, having gotten himself into the best shape of his life.
