Cody Rhodes Shares Big Update On His Long-Term WWE Future

Last year, it was reported that Cody Rhodes had been holding off on signing a new WWE contract despite being offered one. And while it isn’t known why he was delaying, he certainly had a lot of leverage regarding negotiating terms, considering his importance to the product. However, he has just let slip during a recent YouTube interview that he has since inked a multi-year deal, which will now see him wrestle beyond his 40th birthday, previously known to be his intended retirement age.

“It extends beyond my 40th birthday. The plan is still, when it’s time to step out, to step out without it being a painful process. Solely because I saw my dad as an old man wrestler, and he loved it and enjoyed it, but as his son, it was hard to see. My daughter is two going on three, there does have to be a time, just like he was with us, where I have to be home all the time and be there with her. It’s not 40 anymore. I’ll update the number. I hit the prime run late in the game.”

In March 2022, it was reported that the 38-year-old had re-signed with WWE, having quit the promotion six years earlier due to creative frustration. Since then, the second-generation wrestler has been heavily pushed as a top star, although he has yet to “finish his story” by winning the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Yet, with him having committed to WWE long-term, it now seems inevitable, with perhaps next weekend’s WrestleMania being his career-defining moment.
