Cody Rhodes Comments On The Rock Potentially Taking His Spot At WrestleMania 40

Last year, there was speculation that The Rock wrestling Roman Reigns would headline WrestleMania 39, and it wasn’t until Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble match that some fans accepted that wasn’t the plan. This year, it appears a rematch between the pair is the direction WWE is heading toward for WrestleMania 40, although if The Rock were to make himself available, it seems inevitable he would take Rhodes’ place in the match. However, during a new interview with Busted Open, Rhodes has commented on this and said he doesn’t believe The Rock will get his spot.

“I’m not flinching. I feel if The Rock and I were in the same room, he would expect nothing less from me. If you think it’s somebody else, I’m going to do everything I can to make sure you know it’s me. That’s the same attitude The Rock had when he was climbing the ladder. I don’t care who it is. If that happens to be The Rock. If it happens to be anybody. A wonderful superstar like LA Knight, a stellar performer like Sami Zayn. Line them up, and I’m going to do everything I can to outrun them.

I mean that with the utmost respect. I wasn’t shook at all by Rock’s big day out. What I would say is not flinching. If Rock is part of WrestleMania 40, that would be outstanding. It’s The Rock, but I don’t think he’ll be in my spot,”

Two months ago, The Rock returned to WWE television for the first time since 2019, appearing alongside Pat McAfee for a segment with Austin Theory on SmackDown. It was later reported his return was viewed more than 100 million times online, which is astonishing for anything pro-wrestling-related. Therefore, The Rock actually wrestling again would likely break records. Still, if you don’t include the six-second match he had with Erick Rowan at WrestleMania 32, the last time The Rock wrestled was at WrestleMania 29 when he put over John Cena, and there is some doubt regarding his ability to compete at the highest level in his 50s.
