It was well-known that CM Punk’s pro wrestling ambition was to headline WrestleMania, so when he returned to WWE, it was immediately believed this would again be his goal. Yet while Punk played this down, he was clearly emotional when he achieved his dream at this year’s event, headlining night 1 against Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. However, since then, many fans have been keen to point out that to really main event a WrestleMania nowadays, you need to close night 2.

And now, Punk has addressed this while live on Instagram, admitting that closing night 2 is his new aim due to “people that move the goalposts.

When AEW fired Punk in September 2023, following a backstage altercation with Jack Perry at All In, it initially appeared that his career in mainstream professional wrestling was over, as he’d previously departed WWE on bad terms. Yet, with big money to be made, both Punk and WWE were able to put their differences aside and agreed to work together, which so far has been incredibly beneficial for both parties.
