Deadline.com has reported that the iconic horror franchise Hellraiser, based on Clive Barker’s novella The Hellbound Heart, is set to become a TV series thanks to HBO. The first movie in 1987 is considered a horror great, which spawned 9 sequels, and the series is set will be a continuation of the Hellraiser mythology revolving around Pinhead, the Cenobites, and the Lament Configuration puzzle box.

An 11th Hellraiser film is currently in the works, but the series will be unconnected to it, which could be considered good news considering how weak many of the later films were.

Halloween (2018) director David Gordon Green will be directing some episodes, including the pilot, and Michael Dougherty (Trick ‘r Treat, Krampus, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters) and Mark Verheiden (Battlestar Galactica and Heroes) are both on board to write.
