Christopher Daniels Explains Why He Retired From The Ring

TNA legend Christopher Daniels last wrestled in early 2025 on the Jericho Cruise and is officially considered retired. And now, in a recent virtual signing with K&S WrestleFest, Daniels revealed that he stepped away from the ring after reviewing footage of his last bouts and noticing his body slowing down, even as his mind remained sharp. Candidly admitting “I don’t wanna embarrass myself,” it appears the 56-year-old is now fully focused on his influential AEW backstage position.

I watched some of the last matches of my career. I did a lot of stuff in DEFY in Seattle, Washington, and I watched a lot of those matches and while the mental part of those matches is really, really good at least, I’m very proud of it, I have to be honest and say I wasn’t really in the best of shape, and I could tell that I was slowing down, and so, yeah… the way it ended for me is probably best that it ended, and yeah, I don’t really have a desire to get back into it just because I don’t wanna embarrass myself.– Christopher Daniels

Daniels presently serves as AEW’s Head of Talent Relations, a key backstage role he has held since the company’s early days. He oversees talent scouting and acts as a vital link between wrestlers and creative leadership. Beyond recruitment, Daniels contributes to storyline development as a producer and coach. He also appears on-screen as the manager of the SkyFlight stable, which features Scorpio Sky, Top Flight, Leila Grey, and Zayda Steel.
