Pantera will start playing select concerts in December. Surviving members, singer Phil Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown, will be joined by Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante and Black Label Society guitarist Zakk Wylde for a series of shows celebrating the legacy of the band and to honor late guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott and late drummer Vincent “Vinnie Paul” Abbott.
FOZZY frontman Chris Jericho was recently asked his opinion of Pantera’s reunion by Overdrive.
“I think it’s great,” he said. “I was very good friends with Vinnie and I think that, in retrospect, both Vinnie and Dime would be very happy about this. I think that a world with Pantera music in it, is better than a world with no Pantera music in it. I think they got the right guys to help out, with Charlie and Zakk, and when it comes to a whole generation of kids that never got to see those songs being performed live, this is their chance, and it’s gonna be amazing.”
“At the end of the day, it’s about music and sharing the experience of great music amongst people,” the wrestling superstar explained. “I don’t believe that those songs should be locked away and not performed in a grand setting. It’s time for everybody to experience some kind of connection with that music again, be it for the very first time or perhaps just one more time. Either way, it’s gonna be amazing.”
Wylde previously said he still had to learn most of the songs. But given his abilities, it surely won’t be a problem. “I don’t know [how to play] the songs,” he told The SDR Show. “If Dime had to play the ‘No More Tears’ solo and ‘Mama, I’m Coming Home’ and ‘Miracle Man’ and ‘Perry Mason’ and play ‘Suicide Messiah’, it’d be, like, ‘You must know Zakk’s stuff.’ He [would be], like, ‘No. I don’t know any of his stuff. Zakk’s my buddy, but no, I don’t know any of his stuff.’”
FOZZY is gearing up for the UK leg of their “Save The World” tour which begins Nov. 4 in Manchester.
