Chris Jericho Reveals He Spoke To CM Punk Before All In Backstage Altercation

Following All In at Wembley Stadium, CM Punk is no longer with AEW after he got into a backstage altercation with Jack Perry. And now, while speaking on the latest Talk Is Jericho, Chris Jericho revealed he spoke to Punk before the incident to check on the availability of a move before jokingly telling Punk he planned on using the GTS himself. He would then go on to acknowledge Punk’s part in AEW’s success, noting he “went out on top.”

“I did speak to him briefly. I was going to do a Frankensteiner off the top, and I know that he does that sometimes. So I was just curious if he was doing it. So I went and talked to him for a bit and asked him if he was doing it. He wasn’t. Then I told him I was going to do the GTS with a straight face, and I think for a second he thought that I was going to, and I was joking, of course. So yeah, I did see him that day.”

“And once again, it’s a regretful moment what happened. But Tony Khan made his decision. And like I said, CM Punk was a big part of AEW for the time he was here, and if you’re going to go out, he went out on top for sure by having this good match with Samoa Joe in a sold-out stadium, not sold out, but the highest selling ticket seller of all time. So. That’s my thoughts on that.”

When it became known Punk was going to be making his return to AEW following his injury at All Out 2022, it was heavily rumored his first program back was going to be with Jericho. Obviously, this didn’t happen, but fans still hoped to see the two former rivals share a ring again. Sadly, it appears that will now never happen, but thanks to their time together in WWE, there were matches between the two men.
