Chris Jericho Reveals FOZZY Record Where He Found His Voice

FOZZY is getting ready for a UK tour that starts Feb. 6, and earlier this week the band also announced a short U.S. trek in May. Ahead of the band’s UK dates, singer Chris. Jericho spoke with Soundsphere about a variety of topics and was asked when it was that began feeling most comfortable in his role when it came to his singing voice.

“I’d say I really locked in to it, on the ‘Sin and Bones’ record, so about five records in,” Jericho said. “I’m feeling out where my wheelhouse is as a singer. You don’t want to sing too high, or low. Rich [Ward] and Johnny [Andrews] have figured out how to write for my voice as a singer. So yeah, record five was when I locked in, and felt most comfortable as a singer. There are songs we used to play nightly that we don’t play anymore, just because I don’t fit into that mould as a singer now. Then, there are songs like ‘Judas’, which is a perfect song for me to sing. It’s right there on the edge of the range, from a low standpoint to a high standpoint.”

Jericho also discussed the similarities between performing rock music and wrestling in the squared circle. “You do learn how to control an audience,” he said. “It’s very important. You want people to react and have a great time. You want people to cheer when you want them to, and you want them to boo when you want them to. There are a lot of prompts that I will use on-stage and in the ring. You don’t want dead air. You’ve got to be a party host! It’s so important for you to have that interaction, and connection with an audience. If you can do that, you will always have a job!”
