Chris Jericho Believes AEW Shouldn’t Let ROH Talent Leave The Promotion Following Reports Their Contact Is Expiring

Recently it was revealed by Fightful Select that Brian Cage’s AEW contract was expiring. And since then, there have been rumors that he has sent feelers to WWE, with it unknown whether Tony Khan sees him having a future in the ether of his promotions. Now though, AEW’s Chris Jericho has told the Daily Star he feels that Cage should be re-signed, noting he is starting to understand the psychology of being in the ring rather than just the moves.

I think Brian Cage over the last six months is the best Brian Cage has ever been. I think he’s finally starting to understand some of the psychology of wrestling rather than just moves and that sort of thing. He is one of a kind with his size and agility, but now there is more intensity and I think he’s really understanding who he is as a wrestler. Six months ago I might have said “Well, whatever, if he stays that’s cool,” but now I think he has become a way more valuable part of our roster and I would sign him for sure. Absolutely.

Cage debuted for AEW by winning the Casino Ladder Match at Double or Nothing in 2020 and looked set to be one of the promotion stars. However, he would have a lengthy spell on the sidelines just working indie shows due to injuries and the company having nothing creatively for him. It, therefore, seemed inevitable that he would depart the company once his contract expired in January 2022. Yet, Khan surprisingly extended his contract by a year. And since then, he has become a featured performer again and is currently listed as part of the official Ring of Honor roster.
