Matt Cardona spent 14 years with WWE, and during his time working under the name Zack Ryder, he held both the Intercontinental Championship and United States Champions, in addition to two Raw Tag Team Championships. Still, in the eyes of many, WWE dropped the ball on him, considering he got himself so over that at one time, fans were chanting “We Want Ryder” while The Rock was cutting a promo.
And now, after a so-called fan on X questioned his impact on the business, saying, “No one talks about Matt Cardona,” and “Calling you a B+ player would be generous,” his wife, Chelsea Green, would come to his defense, telling them to “get their head out of your ass.”
Since departing WWE, 39-year-old Cardona has seemingly worked everywhere, wrestling for AEW, ROH, TNA, NWA, GCW, MLW, and DDT Pro-Wrestling in Japan. Therefore, he is proof that there is life after WWE for someone who wasn’t booked as a main eventer, although it appears you need to be prepared to do plenty of traveling and focus on building yourself as a brand. Therefore a social media presence is key, which Cardona was one of the first wrestlers to realize.
