#byebyeMUTA Trends As The Great Muta Wrestled WWE’s Shinsuke Nakamura In Japan (w/Video)

In the past, WWE has been reluctant to even acknowledge the existence of other promotions, especially if deemed competition. However, under Triple H, it appears that may be a thing of the past, as after allowing Rey Mysterio to appear on tape at AAA’s TripleMania last year, it subsequently was announced that Shinsuke Nakamura would be on NOAH’s January 1st pay-per-view taking on The Great Muta as part of Keiji Mutoh’s ongoing retirement tour.

And with that match now having taken place, and despite only being available outside of Japan on CyberFight’s streaming service Wrestle Universe the hashtag #byebyeMUTA would still trend in the US. With fans around the world watching Nakamura defeat Muta, thanks to spraying him with his own mist.

Why WWE decided to permit Nakamura to compete in this monumental still isn’t clear, with the SmackDown star tweeting, “This is miracle” following the announcement. However, it certainly wouldn’t be surprising if Mutoh is inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame next year, as Triple H clearly recognizes his significance to the industry.

And while this match was a massive deal for multiple reasons, it actually isn’t the last match of Mutoh’s illustrious career under his Great Muta gimmick. As that is set to take place on January 22nd at The Great Muta Final Bye-Bye event in Yokohama, where he will team with AEW’s Sting and Darby Allin against yet-to-be-confirmed opponents.
