Buddy Matthews, who wrestled as Buddy Murphy in WWE, has been rumored to be AEW or Impact Wrestling bound since he was released earlier this year. While that could still very well be the case due to companies working much closer together than ever before, it has now been announced that he is set to wrestle for New Japan via a video on Twitter.
The event he is scheduled for is called the Battle in the Valley and takes place in San Jose, California, on the 13th November show. Matthews’ opponent has yet been confirmed, however, it is known Jay White, Tomohiro Ishii, Will Ospreay, and Juice Robinson are set to appear on the show.
The Australian’s last WWE match took place in April when he made up the numbers in the André The Giant Memorial Battle Royal on SmackDown. Two months later, he was deemed surplus to requirements and released. With his 90-day release clause expiring several weeks ago, he has already made a handful of indie appearances, with his most high profile being ROH founder Rob Feinstein’s inaugural BCW show. Matthews was booked to wrestle AEW’s Brian Cage but instead faced KC Navarro when Cage could not compete.
