Buddy Matthews Seemingly Disputes Report About His AEW Departure

On Sunday, Fightful Select reported that Buddy Matthews had been written off AEW television and that it may have been his last night with the promotion. Yet, they would say it wasn’t fully confirmed, and now it appears Matthews is disputing this report, or at least part of it, as he has posted a gif on Twitter which shows Elaine from Seinfeld repeatedly saying “fake.” Ultimately, though, the situation remains unclear because he opted not to clarify and instead chose to be vague, leaving things open to interpretation.

Matthews wrestled on an indie show over the weekend and told fans that he needs to “recalibrate” and “figure out some things.” Although, the video showing this on YouTube has since been made private. Additionally, the Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer has stated, “there is a feeling he and Black are done in AEW, and for certain, both are gone, for now, meaning Brody King is likely a single with Julia Hart.” Therefore, at a minimum, it seems Matthews is taking some time away from AEW. However, whether he is going to be released remains unknown.
