Bryan Danielson Plays Down His Role In AEW Creative

Tony Khan recently revealed that he has suggested to his father that if he were ever incapacitated, Bryan Danielson should book AEW for them. Thus, it was presumed that Danielson, who assists Khan in booking Collision, was a big part of the process. However, while speaking to the New York Post, the former WWE star has revealed that this isn’t the case, noting that Khan runs things past him as a sounding board, but the vast majority of creative still comes from AEW’s head honcho.

“I think people think I have more creative input than I actually do, it’s a Tony Khan-run show, so he books these shows. He is the person doing most of the creative. I would say is he doing at least upward of 80 percent of the creative on these shows, if not more.

He runs things by me, sometimes, sometimes he doesn’t. He runs such a crazy schedule that sometimes we don’t get a chance to talk during the week. So I’m just as surprised as everyone else when I see what’s on Collision that week. I might say, ‘That’s great,’ which is mostly 80 percent of the time I say that’s a great idea. Other times I’ll be like, ‘Oh, what if we change it a little bit to this?’ Mostly, I’m just kind of a sounding board for Tony’s ideas and other talents’ ideas, too.”

While active wrestlers being involved in booking has sometimes been a recipe for disaster, it is known that Danielson’s time helping with SmackDown’s creative was deemed positive. Therefore, he certainly has relevant experience, and given it’s now known this will be the final year Danielson competes full-time, it’s undoubtedly a great way to utilize his wrestling knowledge in the future.
