Bryan Danielson Comments On Being Involved In CM Punk’s AEW Firing

Earlier this week, it was reported that Bryan Danielson was on the disciplinary committee that decided to terminate CM Punk’s AEW contract following his backstage altercation with Jack Perry. Previously, it was unclear who was on this panel, but it’s since been confirmed that AEW General Counsel Chris Peck was also included in addition to the AEW star. And now, while speaking to CBS Sports Radio, Danielson has verified that he was involved and revealed it was a difficult decision to make as Punk is his friend.

“Yeah, I mean, I’m a part of the disciplinary committee, and clearly, what happened has happened, you know what I mean? And I’m somebody who I like, you know, I think he brought a lot to AEW while he was the there’s not a lot I can say about it or that I really want to say about it, but yeah, I am a part of it.

It’s really funny because there is, you know, how the internet is. Some people would say I was the head of the disciplinary committee, and I’m like, listen, there were more than three people involved in this decision, but most of them were all lawyers. To say that I was the head, I don’t even have a college degree. I’m not in there bossing people around or anything like that. It’s like, whoa, okay.

But yeah, I am part of a disciplinary committee. Was that difficult? As someone who likes Punk and as a friend of his, was it difficult to be a part of that committee where the decision is that he should leave? Absolutely.”

Punk has landed on his feet since departing AEW, having re-signed with WWE, a company he previously claimed to hate, and now looks set to become an even bigger star. Nevertheless, it is unfortunate how his AEW run ended, and hopefully, fans can still remember the positive moments rather than focus on the backstage incidents that severely tarnished his reputation.
