Brody King Clarifies His AEW Status Following Recent House Of Black Departures

Earlier this month, Malakai Black was granted his AEW release, and while not officially confirmed, Buddy Matthews could be following him out the door. This has led to speculation regarding the future of the remaining House of Black members. And now, following the Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer reporting that “King is likely a single with Julia Hart,” King has reassured his fans via a gif from The Wolf of Wall Street that he isn’t leaving. Seemingly confirming that, unlike Black and Matthews, he is happy in AEW and intends to fulfill his contract.

35-year-old King was a late starter in the business, only beginning wrestling in 2015, and wrestled on the independents in California before working for MLW, Evolve, and PWG. Subsequently, he signed for ROH in 2018, which led him to wrestle on New Japan shows. However, he’d become a free agent once ROH announced their hiatus, and AEW secured his signature over last year’s Thanksgiving weekend. He would debut on the January 12th, 2022, edition of AEW Dynamite, aligning himself with PWG tag partner Black. And while it was initially thought he was going to be a heater for Black, he has become a star in his own right, having won the Royal Rampage and had high-profile singles matches with Jon Moxley and Darby Allin.
