Thirty years ago, Rita Chatterton’s name was wiped from WWE history after the referee claimed Vince McMahon subjected her to a horrific ordeal in the back of a limousine. She would go on to discuss this on Geraldo Rivera’s show, “Now It Can Be Told,” but many still doubted her story.

Among those who were skeptical was Bret Hart, who would discuss this during an interview with Kayfabe Commentaries and even imply she wasn’t attractive enough. However, following the latest set of shocking allegations about McMahon, Hart has revealed while talking to Slate.com that he apologized to Chatterton after seeing her at a convention.

“I just didn’t believe it, I figured Vince had too much at stake to ever do something like that. I apologized from the bottom of my heart, and I said, ‘I believe that what happened to you happened to you. And I apologize. I was wrong.’”

After the Wall Street Journal first reported McMahon had been making hush money payments, Chatterton would file her own lawsuit, asking for $14 million in compensation. Subsequently, it was confirmed McMahon had settled out of court, although it should be noted his lawyer claims the settlement was done solely to avoid the cost of litigation, and the precise figure she has received remains private.
