Bray Wyatt Wins Undesirable Award For The Fifth Time

In 1980, Dave Meltzer launched the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards, with readers of his publication voting in multiple categories. Subsequently, many talents have proudly won awards, with both Wrestler of the Year and Match of the Year being highly sought after. Yet, regardless of how valid they believe the awards are, nobody wants to be labeled Worst in any category.

And now, with the latest awards issue being published, it has been revealed that Bray Wyatt has won the Worst Match Of The Year for his Mountain Dew Pitch Black match with LA Knight. This is the fifth time Wyatt has won this undesirable award, and considering it was his final televised match prior to his untimely death, it shows Wrestling Observer readers aren’t sentimental.

Wyatt first won this award for his match with John Cena at Extreme Rules in 2014 and since then has dominated the category with his WrestleMania 33 match vs. Randy Orton, Hell In A Cell match with Seth Rollins, and Swamp Fight with Braun Strowman, all collecting the award in past years. However, showing that match quality isn’t the only important thing, Wyatt twice won Best Gimmick and was considered one of the most popular performers on WWE’s roster at the time of his tragic passing.
