Earlier this year, Blake Monroe, then called Mariah May, departed AEW and almost immediately signed with WWE, debuting on their NXT brand. However, despite it being obvious WWE is going to book her as a massive star, some fans have already begun to turn on the British wrestler after she gave a promo during this week’s NXT episode in which she showed an old photo of Jordyne Grace, and called her “gym membership material,” leading to accusations of body shaming.
And now, indicating she is fully aware of the online backlash, the 26-year-old has seemingly responded to a compliment on X by saying, “Now all they do is b*tch about me on Twitter.”
Blake began her pro wrestling career as a ring announcer in the UK in 2018, and not long afterward, she commenced her in-ring training. Subsequently, she attended a tryout for NXT UK, but WWE opted not to sign her, which was likely a devastating blow for her at the time, given it’s known she was a huge fan. Still, she wouldn’t give up on her dream, and after working for Japan’s Stardom promotion, Tony Khan would bring her to AEW, having recognized her star potential.
