The October 10th episode of Raw featured a reunion of D-Generation X for the group’s 25th anniversary. Disappointingly, though was the fact Billy Gunn wasn’t involved, with some fans initially blaming AEW for not permitting him to attend what would have been a special moment. However, Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has since reported that AEW was willing to let Gunn participate but required WWE to recognize AEW in the process, which WWE ultimately wasn’t prepared to do. And now Gunn has spoken to Sports Illustrated about missing out, and while noting he did want to be there, says he isn’t blaming anyone, recognizing he works for a rival company now.
Of course, I would have liked to have been there, but I understand that I work for another company, it was a collective decision. I’m not putting it on anyone. I’m not sour about it. We’re two separate companies, and it just didn’t work out.
Billy GunnThe fact Tony Khan was even open to discussing this with WWE when Triple H previously called AEW a “pissant company” when he previously loaned Gunn to the company says a lot about his willingness to work with others. Yet WWE clearly thought mentioning a competitor on their programming wasn’t worth Gunn’s involvement in the segment, which is their prerogative. However, AEW shouldn’t be viewed as the villain, as Khan’s request certainly wasn’t unreasonable given the circumstances.
