The NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship was once the most important championship in all of pro wrestling, with Harley Race, Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair, and Tery Funk being just a few of the legendary names to hold the belt. And while the title has lost much of its prestige over the years, it remains historically significant. Therefore, it is newsworthy that during NWA ’76 on Saturday night, Charlotte Flair’s ex-husband Thom Latimer ended EC3’s 370-day reign as champion.
38-year-old Thom Latimer, also known as Bram, broke into the business in his home country of England in 2002, initially working as a referee. Then, after several years of gaining experience, he signed a WWE developmental contract and began performing in FCW under the ring name Kenneth Cameron.
However, he would sabotage his career by being arrested for assaulting a law enforcement officer, resulting in WWE releasing him. Yet, despite the controversy, this wouldn’t put TNA off from hiring him a few years later. Still, this run was also soured after he was arrested for domestic battery by strangulation and false imprisonment, although all charges would later be dropped.
