Baron Corbin Explains The Meaning Behind His New Wrestling Name

Often, when a wrestler departs WWE having used a name owned by the company, they opt to use their real name going forward, with Nic Nemeth, Matt Cardona, and Adam Copeland being examples of this. Therefore, when Baron Corbin’s contract wasn’t renewed, and he became a free agent, it seemed likely he would start going by Tom Pestock.

However, during an interview with Chris Van Vliet, he confirmed that he will be wrestling as Bishop Dyer, with “The Nomad” being his nickname because he wants to “float and see where the wrestling world takes me.”

“I’m going with ‘The Nomad’ Bishop Dyer, I’m gonna be ‘The Nomad’ … It kind of pays tribute to The Lone Wolf, Dire Wolf, and then a bishop is higher than a baron, so we’re going up. I think it’s just a powerful name, it’s a cool name, and I want to be ‘The Nomad.’ I’m gonna float and see where the wrestling world takes me in that sense.”

40-year-old Pestock was a favorite of Vince McMahon during his time with WWE, memorably winning both the King of the Ring tournament and the Money In The Bank ladder match. Yet despite flirting with the main event scene, he never achieved his goal of being world champion, although perhaps he can still achieve that status in another promotion.
