Despite making huge profits WWE still carried out another round of roster cuts earlier this month, with the biggest names released arguably being Braun Strowman, and Dakota Kai. And now after it was reported Strowman’s departure was due to the feeling he was overpaid for his spot, it’s now been confirmed by Dave Meltzer that this is the same reason Kai was let go. Apparently management didn’t see her potential beyond putting over rising stars, and therefore her main roster roster pay (at least $350,000) was deemed too high.
37-year-old Kai, real name Cheree Crowley, first worked for WWE in 2015 and signed a contract with the company the following year. From there, she became an NXT regular and looked set for big things before being unexpectedly released in 2022. Nevertheless, her time away from the company would be short, as after Triple H took over creative and talent relations, one of his first actions was to re-sign her and unite her with Bayley and Iyo Sky to form the original version of Damage CTRL.
