Last week, eagle-eyed fans noticed that Mariah May was no longer listed on AEW’s roster page, which typically means a talent has departed the company, although her management would deny this. However, it appears they weren’t being 100% truthful, as the British wrestler has now debuted for WWE during this week’s episode of NXT by delivering a promo.
Still, despite being a former AEW Women’s Champion, it looks like she is set to get a new ring name, as she’s only referred to as “glamorous” during NXT, and now Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select has reported on X their sources believe she will be getting “an altered name.”
It’s well-known that WWE prefers to own the names of their talents to avoid them being able to use them elsewhere. Yet, the policy has always been flexible, as Ethan Page and Jade Cargill kept the ring names they used in AEW, while Brian Pillman Jr. became Lexis King, and Ricky Starks was renamed Ricky Saints. Therefore, May’s possible upcoming name change doesn’t come as a total surprise, and perhaps will even see WWE push her more, given that her name is their intellectual property.
