When Cody Rhodes won the men’s Royal Rumble match, it looked like the WrestleMania 40 main event between himself and Roman Reigns was set. However, on SmackDown, the seeds were sown for him to be replaced by The Rock, and that is expected to become official later this week at WWE’s Thursday press conference in Las Vegas. And now, Fightful Select has reported that Rhodes himself may have only found out about this on Friday, which, if accurate, shows a shocking lack of communication and planning within WWE.
“Regarding the timeline of events, we’re told that Cody at least was informed as of Friday that this was the decision, and he didn’t travel to Smackdown without knowing.”
Fightful SelectSince it became evident that The Rock was going to take Rhodes’ WrestleMania spot, fans online have been vocally against this, with #WeWantCody trending worldwide and the YouTube video of The Rock’s SmackDown segment becoming the most disliked in WWE history. Whether this will make WWE reevaluate their decision to go with the Hollywood star remains to be seen. Yet, history has proven it is possible, with Daniel Bryan being added to the WrestleMania 30 main event due to fan demand.
