In his new book “Eruption in the Canyon: 212 Days & Nights With the Genius of Eddie Van Halen,” the author Andrew Bennett shares photos and shares stories from the time he spent with Van Halen between 2004 and 2007.
One story is that Eddie Van Halen and Fred Durst met at a party, and a record-label executive suggested they work together. The pair agreed to jam at a house in Beverly Hills. Eddie would bring his guitars, amps and other equipment but promptly left after members of Limp Bizkit began smoking weed. The following day Eddie would request his gear back but never heard back, so he decided to visit the house and demand it back.
The author claims Eddie got out of his assault vehicle that he’d won at a military auction wearing no shirt, jeans held up with a strand of rope, and combat boots held together by duct tape. Eddie would go to the door and put a gun to Durst’s head, saying, “Where’s my shit, motherfucker?”
Unsurprisingly there was never any further talk of Van Halen-Limp Bizkit collaboration.
