Referee Aubrey Edwards is arguably the most well known official in All Elite Wrestling having been with the company since shortly after its 2019 inception. Edwards has refereed hundreds of the company’s biggest matches and has been a standout part of the company both in the ring and behind the scenes.
Edwards is set to appear for a signing at the Toyhio Toy Show in Girard, Ohio on Feb. 7, and ahead of the show she talked with Youngstown Studio/Web Is Jericho’s B.J. Lisko about a variety of topics including where she feels the company is at currently compared to seven years ago.
“It’s the same today as it was back then,” she said. “We’re the challenger brand. We’re giving wrestling fans something other than what they had been used to up to prior to 2019. But I think today we’ve sort of more refined the formula almost.”
Edwards continued: “Like, we figured out what works. We figured out how to best present ourselves, and then over the course of time as we become this bigger monster, we’ve recruited some of the best talent in the world, and some of our own talent who have been here since the very beginning is now considered some of the best talent in the world. We look at people like Hangman (Adam) Page, we look at people like Timeless Toni Storm, they’re absolutely incredible. And to see where they were even just years ago is insane, right?”
“So I think that’s the big thing is that I have never worked at a place where everyone came to work and was excited to be at work. Now, mind you, I worked in a lot of corporate places and this job is slightly different because I spend my time yelling at half-naked people who play fight in their underwear. So it’s a little bit more fun than a corporate 9 to 5. But from that aspect, I think this is just the kind of place that everyone enjoys being at work. Everyone enjoys what they do, and everyone enjoys putting on a fantastic show for fans.”
