Monday night’s episode of Raw was built around the 20-year anniversary of John Cena’s WWE debut against Kurt Angle. And the show featured several past and present stars paying tribute to him via video. However, somewhat surprisingly, current AEW stars Chris Jericho, Bryan Danielson, and Paul Wight would also feature, with the latter two going by their WWE names, Daniel Bryan and Big Show.
All three men were significant parts of Cena’s career, so it was fitting they were included. Yet, just a few years ago, the idea of stars from a rival company appearing on WWE television would have been unthinkable. Nevertheless, WWE has relaxed its policy recently, even having Impact Knockout’s Champion Mickie James wrestle at the Royal Rumble. Obviously, though, AEW is a much bigger competition, and it shows how highly regarded Cena is with management prepared to speak with Tony Khan directly to make this happen.
